How did you get started in the shoe business?
I started selling shoes in college for my family shoe store in Huntsville, AL. We carried only super healthy shoes that would help with common foot conditions.
Why do you enjoy the job?
I get to work with some of my favorite people on planet earth! That's not something you generally get to do. Also, there's great satisfaction in helping someone find the perfect pair of shoes.
What's your favorite activity outside of work?
It's no secret to my family and friends that I LOVE running! I do it every chance I get. Chattanooga is one of the best cities to run in because of the beautiful view from downtown of the bridges and mountains.
What's your favorite new shoe in the store?
I love Dr. Martens. It's definitely a nostalgic choice for me, as my first major purchase as a kid using my own money was a pair of Dr. Martens shoes. I now own the 1460 boot and it is my go-to during Fall/Winter.
What features do you most look for in a shoe?
Firstly, it has to be comfortable! No exceptions. I remember getting a pair of boots I loved at first because the style was exactly what I was looking for however, after wearing them for a few days they were terribly uncomfortable so the relationship went from love to hate real quickly.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in North Carolina. First Fayetteville, then Pinehurst. I love North Carolina because you get the best of both worlds: the mountains and the sea.
What brought you to Chattanooga?
My wife and I moved here when we had the opportunity to acquire a shoe store. It was a traditional "sit and fit" shoe store called Zumfoot. We carried comfort brands as well as a few outdoor brands.
